Product Description:
Conservative talk radio's fastest-growing superstar is also a New York Times bestselling phenomenon: the author of the groundbreaking critique of the Supreme Court, Men in Black, and the deeply personal dog lover's memoir Rescuing Sprite, Mark R. Levin now delivers the book that characterizes both his devotion to his more than 5 million listeners and his love of our country and the legacy of our Founding Fathers: Liberty and Tyranny is Mark R. Levin's clarion call to conservative America, a new manifesto for the conservative movement for the 21st century.
In the face of the modern liberal assault on Constitution-based values, an attack that has steadily snowballed since President Roosevelt's New Deal of the 1930s and resulted in a federal government that is a massive, unaccountable conglomerate, the time for re-enforcing the intellectual and practical case for conservatism is now. Conservative beliefs in individual freedoms do in the end stand for liberty for all Americans, while liberal dictates lead to the breakdown of civilized society -- in short, tyranny. Looking back to look to the future, Levin writes "conservatism is the antidote to tyranny precisely because its principles are our founding principles." And in a series of powerful essays, Levin lays out how conservatives can counter the liberal corrosion that has filtered into every timely issue affecting our daily lives, from the economy to health care, global warming, immigration, and more -- and illustrates how change, as seen through the conservative lens, is always prudent, and always an enhancement to individual freedom.
As provocative, well-reasoned, robust, and informed as his on-air commentary, Levin's narrative will galvanize readers to begin a new era in conservative thinking and action. Liberty and Tyranny provides a philosophical, historical, and practical framework for revitalizing the conservative vision and ensuring the preservation of American society.
Summary: Levin needs to pull away from the mainstream conservatives
Rating: 3
If you have any background in conservative political theory, a lot of the material covered in this book will come across as elementary, but I do like the primary argument that the Left is not so different from the fascist Right in their desire to control everything. Something I don't get about the "cool" liberals is that they are so big on being rebels and yet they support a political party that wants to put all power into hands of the government so that everything can be redistributed "fairly" with "justice." How naive to think any large government would be anything but corrupt. The republicans aren't much better, but there is a growing element on the right that is steering people away from the big government party of Bush. Unfortunately, Levin is not one of these people and is all too quick to support the Republicans for the sake of party politics. He needs to realise that both the left and the mainstream right are all about Statism. Instead, he defines neoconservatives as conservatives big on security. No, Levin, they are big on government which does not always translate into big on security.
Summary: Every American Should Read this Book
Rating: 5
This is an amazing book. Every American should read it. I had already read it and ordered the second book for my sister. Reading can assist others to better understand why there are so many Americans worried about their country.
Summary: Great Scholarly knowledge for all of us educated in public school
Rating: 5
This is an impressive read, giving great historical perspective and insights into areas ignored in public school, or forgotten with the passing of time. Doesn't read like a history book, Mark manages to keep your interest throughout. Yet you leave each page absorbing details long forgotten, if known at all!
Summary: Deus ex machina..!
Rating: 5
Keep Liberty and Tyranny with your copies of the
Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
That's EXACTLY where it belongs..!
Summary: Liberty and Tyranny
Rating: 5
I was never so taken aback by a book written from the heart such as this one. I recommend it for an excellent read and for everyone to quote from it frequently. As Rush Limbaugh had said, that people will read this book and claim this as their own knowledge. This book explains the Principles of Conservatism and the great framers that founded the only truly free country in the world. We must not lose our freedoms. This book could be used to teach, from the elementary to the college level as exactly what rights we were given, and what rights we will lose if we do not act now.
A quote from Sophocles: "Men of ill judgement oft ignore the good that lies within their hands, till they have lost it"
