These books take you through a place and all of the creatures that live there. We got to know the creatures, their habits, their homes, etc. (they are as they would be in nature - i.e. none are dressed in clothes or live in houses, etc.). These stories are a little like Aesop's Fables in that there is some little bit of character building or a moral - something for adults and older children to chew on but it is not sooo overbearing as to take away from the creatures themselves. This is a sweet book written in a time when children were protected and imagination reined.
