I enjoyed some of this novel. And it was a novel, longer than your typical romance. Alex is not your typical hero and is actually very un-heroic at times. His cynicism would drive away most people. He certainly annoyed me at times. Gwen is great. The scene after the non-wedding in her bedroom his hilarious. I probably would have done the same. Equally hilarious is the vision of her trying to sneak out with all the 'sweaters.' There is plenty of funny scenes in this novel (glass throwing anyone?) and a pretty good story too.
The problem with it is Duran seems to ramble at times. I'm still not sure who wrote those love letters. What point did they give to the story anyway? The arguments between Alex & Gwen seemed to go on forever at times. The storyline in France where Alex is tracking down Barrington seemed superfluous and really had nothing to do with the story. Such a minor character having so many scenes was, well, tedious. I could care less what he was up to.
The ending was okay. More rambling that made little sense, an explanation (of sorts) about the non-wedding and a sweet reunion. The love story was great but the filler was not.
