I've read a lot of books and this is one of the very few that I've read where I have really gotten a good feel for the characters. There is so much depth in each and every one that you can't call any of them cliche in their roles. In fact, this is my favorite thing about the book. The characters are just as important as the story, which is kind of hard to explain but hopefully you get where I'm going with that. In a lot of books, the story is the most important aspect and the characters are along for the ride. In some books, some of the characters are left kind of vague to help the reader try to find similarities to themselves for immersion. While that has it's place, this book actually makes you feel like you actually know the characters and what they're going through.
Seriously, if you're looking for a new author to pick up and enjoy, I heavily recommend you give Tome of the Undergates (and it's upcoming sequels) a try. You won't be disappointed.
