I find the characters are lively and the explanations about the words pertaining to law are clear. The critics also feel a 13 years old boy cannot comprehend law so well and it is rather unrealistic. I fully disagree with the criticism. Children's minds are like sponges and absorb much more than we think of them. Children take whatever we offer when they are growing.
The only criticism that I have is, the ending is vague. Mr. Grisham leaves it to the reader's imagination although he makes it clear that the judge believes the witness has told the truth.
