Our boy Brian returns to the wilds of Canada but this time with a companion; a man who is part of a team that wants to understand how it was that Brian survived on his own with so few resources.
Brian agrees to go because the information is going to be used to help others to mentally adapt to the isolation and the wild. What happens is nothing like what they planned.
A good story, "The River" is geared more towards the juvenile shelves than the YA section. It's a lighter Paulsen read that is very adventure oriented. As an adult I thought there were moments that were a tad unrealistic. But that didn't keep me from enjoying this intriguing romp down river.
