The story of Mary Queen of Scots is told by three people herself and her jailers, the Lord of Shrewsbury and his shrewd wife, Bess of Hardwick. The author skillfully weaves a fair amount of history through the revelations of the three principal characters. There tends to be a bit of monotomy, however, as they move from castle to castle and await the outcome of their pleas to Queen Elizabeth. The author shows an in-depth development of her characters and all in all very skillfully weaves a tale that held my interest until the end.
