Dr Tess Gerritsen left a successful medical practice to become known as an international and New York Times-bestselling thriller writer. She was born June 1953 and raised in San Diego, California, and was educated at Stanford University. She received her M.D. at the University of California, San Francisco. While working and living in Hawaii, Dr Gerritsen submitted a short story to Honolulu Magazine's statewide fiction contest. Her story took first place. Her first few novels were romantic thrillers, however she gained nationwide acclaim for her first medical thriller Harvest. She currently resides in Maine with her family and is a full-time writer and enjoys gardening and playing the fiddle in her spare time.
The Mephisto Club is a novel that written by Tess Gerritsen. This book was published on September 12, 2006.
This book features a "club" called the Mephisto club, a group of demon hunters who follow evil and study where the outbreaks of evil are in the world. When a woman is found brutally murdered on Christmas Eve, dismembered, and several symbols and a Latin word which translates to "I have sinned" are scrawled on her wall, Maura Isles and Jane Rizzoli are led to Joyce O'Donnell, a psychiatrist who studied serial killers.
From Publishers Weekly
In this brisk, deftly plotted thriller from bestseller Gerritsen (Vanish), Boston medical examiner Maura Isles and police detective Jane Rizzoli look into the murder of 28-year-old Lori-Ann Tucker, whose body is found Christmas morning in her apartment amid an unholy mess of severed limbs, black candles and satanic symbols rendered in blood. "Peccavi," reads one word scrawled across Tucker's wall-Latin for "I have sinned." Isles and Rizzoli must sort sinner from innocent among suspects who can be found on several continents and include a group of sophisticates-scholars, an anthropologist, a psychiatrist-who are either cult members or crusaders against evil straight from the pages of Revelation. Other murders follow, all gruesome, all involving apocalyptic messages. On occasion, the action shifts to Europe, to a young woman running from a man she's convinced is descended from a race of fallen angels. Gerritsen has a knack for stretching believability just short of the breaking point-and for amassing details that produce an atmosphere in which the most terrible possibilities can and, indeed, should occur.
