I don't know why this didn't pop up when I searched for the author, but hopefully, this review won't go unnoticed. I have a passing familiarity with McCabe's writing, having read a few of her more unusual Harlequin Historicals (a fave was set in Renaissance Venice), so when I discovered her next Undone was set in the 1920s, I was quite eager to read The Girl in the Beaded Mask.
Though this was a short novella, McCabe managed to pack an emotional and sexy wallop in less than 40 pages. David and Lulu have known one another since childhood, with Lulu secretly in love with him all of her life. WWI changes everything, and a scarred David turns into a recluse at the war's end. However, the beautiful Lulu is determined to bring him out of his shell and into her life. The action takes place at a scandalous masquerade and McCabe's elegant prose gives a nice glimpse into the hedonistic lifestyle of England's "Bright Young Things". The love scenes are plentiful and very sensual, as the Undone line promises, and the HEA is very believable. Now I'm left wanting to read more romances set in the wrongfully neglected 1920s! Brava Ms McCabe!
