How could Chasing the Dead be topped? It was a terrific and twisted story that had moments of pure depravity mixed with tender loss and pain. From the very first page I was hooked and devoured the book within 48 hours (a feat for me!)Therefore I've been waiting with baited breath for 'The Dead Tracks' since I heard about it's upcoming release. I ground my teeth in frustration as it had an early release in the UK while I waited for Amazon to send my copy to Australia. Finally last week it arrived and I shut myself away to sink back into the world of David Raker. It's hard to not give the plot away but in saying that it twists and turns so much that just when I thought I had it all figured out I was sucked into the next twist and sank deeper into the cushions of my recliner! Tim Weaver really does have a warped mind. He describes the atmosphere and surroundings with such ease that you don't feel bogged down in comparison to reading a Stephen King novel. In each terrifying moment I was inside the room, heart beating faster as torches flickered and the boogie man was closing in. The characters have depth and it's exciting to see them grow from the last book. Best of all is the continuation in momentum regards to plot. Many authors begin with a fantastic starter novel but fail to impress with the follow up book 2. Tim Weaver has proven to not only produce a fantastic first novel but has succeeded in surpassing it with 'The Dead Tracks'. I have to admit, as much as I'd love to see this book made into a movie, I think I'd be to squeamish to watch it! Watch out James Patterson, Ian Rankin and Patricia Cornwell, there is a new boy in town and he's going to make waves in the Crime world.
