This one is truly a great novel. The story isn't exactly the most action-packed, but it more than makes up for that. It's a tense, carefully balanced story that weaves very between what you guess may happen, what you hope may happen, and what completely takes you by surprise. It's the delicate balancing between these that keep you guessing, yet give you that slight satisfaction every once in a while when you shout in your head, 'I KNEW IT!". The only down side I felt was Christopher. I am quite fond of him as a character, but it seems that he spends a great deal of time in this book trying too hard to be mysterious or something. A lot of the difficulties arise out of Wynter and Razi knowing nothing of the Merron people, of which Christopher happens to be. Instead of just telling them about things, he tends to pout, scream, or dodge issues until they come to a breaking point. Although not enough to ruin this great book, it was annoying nevertheless.
