While there isn't a great deal of suspense in the novel, it was a quick, fun, interesting read. What Ahern does best is develop rich, round characters that leap off the page. A week after reading it, I still feel like I know her characters. I can picture their movements and gestures, hear their witty comments, and see them in those random, daily moments that end up being what life is all about. So many scenes come to life in this book and then stick with the reader after finishing it. While the ending could have wrapped up more quickly, it was satisfying.
The idea of the magical elements that may be at work in our lives added another enjoyable layer to the storyline. Granted, donating blood doesn't seem like such a big deal in the real world, but in this fictional world it just makes the reader consider how people may connect with others on a more mystical level. This is an effective layer to add to a chick lit storyline.
