Once upon a time, a man named Lucan de Thistlewood who was half-human and half-faerie died. His father Aengus, a powerful faerie prince, took the woman who had led Lucan to his death and imprisoned her in the faerie underworld. Alys le Fayre was a beautiful young woman who toyed with the affections of young men-- including Lucan's. Now she is condemned to pass her time with the faeries until Lucan is reborn. According to legend, a faerie has no soul and since Lucan was half-faerie, his only chance at obtaining a soul is by finding true love. Since Alys robbed Lucan of true love she must find his perfect woman for him. The catch is that she only has one hundred and thirty days to do it because that's when Lucan's faerie essence will run out and he will die. Lucan has been reborn as Lucian James Warre, the seventh Marquess of Thistlewood. He has no interest in marriage-- in fact, he doesn't believe in love at all. Alys returns to her world as Alys Faire, sister of Bevis Faire-- a friend of Lucian's who died by a bayonet that was intended for Lucian. Feeling he owes his dead friend a debt, Lucian takes Alys in and agrees to find her a husband. Meanwhile, Alys has to teach Lucian how to feel emotion... and eventually love. If she fails, Lucian will die for a second time without a soul-- and she will lose her own soul forever. Stronger Than Magic is a fanciful tale of love from talented Heather Cullman. Alys and Lucian have a definite love-hate relationship and at times, at least early on, Lucian is a little harsher with Alys than necessary. He is a brooding hero and a challenge for Alys, who has to learn what love is all about before she can hope to coax it out of Lucian. Hedley Bragg, the hob, is a quirky side-kick-- repulsive yet hysterical and a great addition to the story.Heather Cullman has a charming imagination that comes to life in her writing! Stronger Than Magic is whimsical and romantic... a lovely combination! If you like your historicals with a sprinkling of faerie dust, this is the book for you! Heather Cullman deftly combines history and fantasy to create a delightfully romantic tale!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times
