This is a collection of papers in honor of Wesley Salmon. For a long time he has strongly and clearly argued that causation is not restricted to deterministic contexts. Although there is hardly a consensus on the subject of causation and probability, in the last 30 years great progress, that rarity in pb.ilosophy, has been made, not least due to Salmon. This collection continues the tradition of fruitful debate.
There are 13 essays in the collection, as well as an illuminating annotated bibliography of Salmon's writings. Roughly speaking the essays cover five (overlapping) topics: (I) the calculus of probability and its interpretations; (2} the relation between causes and probabilities; (3) the principle of the common cause; (4) evidential decision theory; and (5) induction and probabilistic reasoning. The essays are clear, never unnecessarily technical, and tackle interesting problems. They could well serve as a guide to current views, as well as stimulate more research.
