Say what you will about old Prince Rogers Nelson, the man is a shrewd little businessman. First he was smart enough to write a song called 1999, which would be played ad nauseam until New Year's 1999 (for a royalty rate second only to songs played at ballparks); then he was smart enough to know that people would pay their good green money to hear him sing that song at a concert in his own studio on the very night in question; then he was smart enough to turn that concert into a Pay-Per-View special for even more cash; and now he's smart enough to turn the whole thing into a DVD.
That's right, now you can have that legendary concert for your own forever. (Actually I don't know how legendary it was, I was playing my own gig that night and didn't see it.)
The Artist, who at the time of this concert had not yet changed his name back to Prince, had a bunch of sweet guest stars for this show, most notably a big chunk of the Family Stone, sans Sly (including bassist Larry Graham), as well as Lenny Kravitz, Rosie Gaines, Maceo Parker, and Morris Day and the Time.
