Prador Moon is distinctly different from Neal Asher's previous Polity novels in that it doesn't quite make it beyond 250 pages, but it still managed to pack quite a punch as almost every single page features violent and gruesome deaths, alien crab monsters snacking on human flesh, weaponry that will make the Empire in Star Wars cringe, and so forth. In this novel Asher focuses on two characters who are both directly affected by the war between the alien Prador and the human race and its benevolent AI rulers: Jebel Krong, a resourceful and merciless soldier, and Moria Salem, a runcible scientist, and manages to develop them nicely even though the story feels much too short. Surprises and an inventive ending awaits those who opt to read this book. The action never lets up, and at the end of 220 or so pages I felt exhilirated and out of breath because of the frenetic pace the book sets. I highly recommend anything that Asher has done so far. Check out his other books set in the Polity. They're even better than this one.
