Fernando Vicente is a well known Spanish illustrator. His work is released weekly in "Babelia", the cultural supplement of "El Pais" newspaper. In "Portraits" he has collected more than fifty of his best portraits dedicated to writers like Truman Capote, Juan Carlos Onetti, Bolano, Cortazar, Celine, Paul Celan o Ernesto Sabato among many others.
About the Author
Born in Madrid, Fernando Vicente began his career as illustrator and painter in the 80's. He works with newspapers and magazines like El Pais, Gentleman or Cosmopolitan and publishers like Alfaguara, Espasa or Sintesis.
Fernando Vicente como joven historietista, pago el natural peaje a las fascinaciones del momento. Sus protagonistas eran heroes melancolicos y perdedores, vestidos con americanas de anchas hombreras, o mujeres estilizadas, fatales o languidas, de larga melena ondulada. Hacian honor a la idea de que siempre es mejor el recuerdo de tiempos no vividos. Pero Fernando aportaba un notable dominio del dibujo y mostraba un buen sentido de la narracion, cuando tantos de sus colegas. Cuando inicio su larga colaboracion con Babelia, el suplemento de libros de El Pais. Era otro Fernando Vicente, que conservaba lo mejor del anterior. Asi era y asi es con el. Y todavia hay otra caracteristica que le hace singular: su generosidad. El trabajo de un ilustrador en prensa suele ser rapido, incluso cuando su destino es un suplemento semanal o mensual. Pero con Fernando no parece ser asi.
