There is one sentence in this marvelous book where Bill O'Reilly says it all, "The President and his advisors have gotten folks riled." He couldn't be more right. Is this what the liberals felt like when Bush was in power? Most people are not aware of it, but O'Reilly is not just a talking head, he has taken the time to obtain two master's degrees, one from Boston University, and the other fairly late in life, from the JFK School of Government at Harvard in 1995.
I come from the Right, but I am more objective than most from the Left. What I personally like about O'Reilly is that even though he is from the Right, he makes every attempt to be impartial unlike his most of his competitors, who are very angry people, and show it in their commentary. The man has a heart too, as seen in his description of former television personality and then Bush spokesman, Tony Snow. O'Reilly says, "He was a better man than I am." He also mentions that when Tony Snow died, the New York Times ignored it; the Washington Post treated it with dignity. Some people and institutions have class and dignity and others really don't.
There is one chapter devoted to people who the author finds fascinating. What is fabulous is that he denotes each one to be either a pinhead (someone who does dumb things), or a patriot (someone who does good things), and you have to read the stories to know who is who. The chapter includes his opinions about such figures as Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Eisenhower, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Babe Ruth, Mel Gibson, Jackie Robinson, and Hank Aaron. With a few of his commentaries, he will surprise you with his thoughts.
In summary, Bill O'Reilly writes the way he speaks. Whether it's attending the White House Christmas party in 2009 and talking warmly of the kindness of the Obama's to the author's 10 year old daughter Madeline, or writing about Islamic terrorism, he pulls no punches, and forces you to think. He goes through the issues of the day, and wonders, "When will I get my country back." You are going to love this book. Thank you for reading my review and good luck.
