Summary: favorite digital photo text Rating: 5 this is my favorite digital photography book that I have found. I teach digital photography and find this book to be praise-worthy. the two Jay's are genuinely talented photographers, so the images are way above what has been acceptable in textbooks for far too long. the updated digital info is great, in fact I like their LR instructions better than the LightRoom-only book that I purchased. There is a lot of technical information in here, but above that there is an understanding that the technical is there so that you can use the camera. It is a beautiful and motivating book. Not great for the absolute beginner, better for someone that has some knowledge of photography, or is transferring over from film. Summary: Not for the Kindle Rating: 1 I was reveling in the joy of being able to sample a half dozen books on photography, read their reviews and select the one that clearly appeared to contain the answers to my questions, all in the middle of the night, in the comfort of my home, because I was smart enough to have bought a Kindle2. This 480 page reference was my choice. I bought the book, for more than twice the more typical $10 price of other books, sat down to enjoy getting oriented to this impressive reference, only to find the Table of Contents is not active. Not only that, but the Table of Contents doesn't even have page numbers associated with the chapters or topics. A 480 page reference work, essentially worthless as a reference on an electronic reading device. At least the Customer Service staff took the edge off my frustration and anger with their sympathy for that frustration as they refunded my purchase. Summary: A beautiful guide into DIGITAL photography! Rating: 5 This wonderful book teaches you in detail everything there is to learn about DIGITAL photography. Digital being the key word here. The first bit of the book focuses more on the functions of the camera and techniques, the second lot goes in depth about using Adobe Photoshop to edit your pictures. Camera techniques are guided to you by National Geographic photographer Jay Dickman. Jay Kinghorn is an Adobe Photoshop Certified Expert, so you are getting instructions from one of the best. This is a world class team! I would recommend this book to any photographer interested in getting a better understanding of their camera, how it works, how to use it, and how to best work in a digital darkroom. Summary: book Rating: 4 The book came as promised, but I couldn't find anywhere in the ad that stated it was Version I; hence, I really was buying the wrong book. I wanted version II. Summary: OK but not perfect Rating: 3 I class it as OK but not perfect - it helped me to improve the functional value of the owners manual supplied with the SLR. Good coverage of range of relevant topics, but seems to lack the instructional value that the descriptions suggest. Also it devotes almost half the book to printing, scanning etc....
