It's a slow read, with quite a complicated plot (as far as Mary Balogh's books are concerned), but it's well-written and satisfying. I loved Lily with her child-like, carefree nature. I loved Neville with his beautiful mix of military and earl hood manliness. I loved Elizabeth for her open-mind, and Attingsborough for being his cool self, and I pity and love the Duke of Portfrey for his austere calm despite the lonely and incomplete life. Such a great cast of supporting characters, all weaving a rainbow of personalities around the two main ones. So yes, perhaps Neville should be a stronger person, but it's not really just a story of him and his lady love, but everyone else caught in between, that's what makes the story so fun to read.
