A quick read, great twist at the end, and a nice mix of science with vampire tropes. Well worth the price. On the strength of this book, I bought his science fiction thriller ("dreamer's cat") and am enjoying that as well.
Action takes place after 9/11, but a couple of references place this as a much earlier work. An old manuscript pulled out of the drawer and updated? Also a couple of Briticisms placed in the mouths of Americans sound an off-note (main character is English but working in L.A.), but these are minor criticisms.
