This book really took me by surprise. I've read all four of Michelle Moran's novels novels now, and this is by far the most interesting and accomplished. That isn't to say her previous works haven't been excellent. Just that this surpasses the other three by leaps and bounds. It could be that I simply love this era -with the gowns and the politics and the headiness of Revolution, followed by the destruction of the Terror - or it could be the way Michelle Moran has written the book. The story is told in first person present tense from Marie Tussaud's perspective. The use of present tense is something I don't normally like, but it really works for this book. Whatever the reason, I like this book best of all Michelle Moran's works. She has really outdone herself with this one, and I'm glad I got the book in hardcover.
