Into one informal recording session, put one young French tenor player (Barney Wilen)and two master Jazz rhythm players (Percy Heath and Kenny Clark)together with one timeless Jazz genius playing something other than his usual instrument (Milt Jackson on piano) and have them play French songs. What could possibly go wrong? Well, nothing, as it turned out. Wilen was sensational; Heath and Clark, along with percussionist Gana M'Bow were at their usual high standard; the session may have been informal, but it was also pretty well planned; the French songs were by Django and Trenet; and the amazing Milt amazed by playing the piano in both the tradional manner and, as the vibes player he is, rapid-fire with two fingers.
You'll dig it.
