The so-called Brandenburg Concertos were composed six concertos by Johann Sebastian Bach in the time spent in Kothen, Duchy of Saxony, from 1717 to 1723. They were dedicated to Margrave Christian Ludwig of Brandenburg March 24, 1721.
Bach adopted for these works, the words of French-Concerts avec plusieurs instruments (that can then be considered the official title of the work), then a statement indicating the type of musical structure in which each instrument was entrusted to a single performer ( ie, without the doubling of parts). The main feature of these concerts and thus their solo form, with each performer follows its own melody or harmonic second time, against any kind of reproduction tends to be delivered in a classical orchestra. The current name of the Brandenburg Concertos was introduced by the first great biographer of Bach and the first official curator of his catalog of 1879, Philipp Spitta, because of their destination. Bach's manuscript was probably never performed in the home of Margrave it's stored next to other 77 works then distributed among five heirs. It was only in 1850 (year of the centenary of the death of Bach) that the work was finally published for the types of the publisher Peters in Leipzig. Bach was aware that these works were not carried out, both for the shortage of staff at the court, both for the particular difficulty of the score and this can be seen from the less care with which the manuscript was drafted. But this shows, as always in Bach, that the six concerts in its intentions constituted a kind of encyclopedia of teaching and demonstration of the possibilities of the genre, a sort of universal form of the concert, as will the kind of escape for the late work The Art of the flight. The composer intended to give performers a kind of sample (the term is by A. Bass) of stylistic virtuosity of high level, so each show and wrote for the main instruments of the time: two are for brass (hunting horn and trumpet) are for two flutes (sweet and transverse) and two for the main instruments for chamber music (keyboard - in this case harpsichord - and strings).
Johann Sebastian Bach (Eisenach, March 21, 1685 - Leipzig, July 28, 1750) was a German composer and organist of the Baroque period, a Protestant, widely considered one of the great music of all time.
The contribution to the music of Johann Sebastian Bach, or to use an expression popularized by his student Lorenz Christoph Mizler, science of music is often compared to William Shakespeare contribution to English literature and Isaac Newton's physics. During his lifetime he composed over 1000 works.
Fritz Reiner (Budapest, December 19, 1888 - New York, 15 November 1963) was a Hungarian-born American conductor.
After initial studies in law at the insistence of his father, he continued his studies in piano and composition in Budapest at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music and was a substitute teacher and at the Komische Oper. The last two years as a pupil his piano teacher was a young Bela Bartok.
He held the post of Kapellmeister in Ljubljana, and was director of the Budapest Opera and Dresden. At the same time appeared as guest conductor in Hamburg, Berlin and Vienna.
He moved to the United States in 1922 and held the position of Eugene Ysaye who was the head of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, beginning a career American for a decade, he conducted the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, but his name is chiefly remembered for his brilliant results obtained during the period of his leadership of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where his reputation is firmly attached.
