I very much enjoyed this third book however. The characters were all a little older and no longer seemed too mature for their age. I liked the expanded view we get of their time at Terafin and the expanded points of view from other characters. I love the expansion on Angel's character and background. I am resisting asking Michelle if this was always the plan for Angel or if she made up his story for these books. I find that I don't want to know if it's new.
One of the things I love about Michelle's books is that she never spells everything out for you. There's always back story and subtext to be had. The reader is given glimpses into Kallandras and Evayne and the Hunters but only enough of their story to keep the main story flowing. To know more one would have to read the Hunter Books and the Sun Sword books. We are also given new glimpses of Meralonne and Isladar which was nice. I truly wonder what it would be like to read about the big battle or any of these books without prior knowledge of all the characters. If you read these books first, I'm interested in your comments.
Call me sentimental, but I really enjoyed the last 100 pages and the closure it gives to the den.
