Nevertheless music from Turkey is more versatile as most people know; it of course does not only consists of folklore, or exclusively pop. It is as colourful as the variety of people that live in this big country (e.g. Kurds, Arabs, Cherkessians, Georgians, Armenians, Greeks, Assyrians, Bosnians, Albanians, Laz people, Chechens, Bulgarians, Tartars and so on). That is why it is no wonder to see artists from many different cultures on this double-sampler „Made in Turkey“, as for example, two Kurdish singers Aynur Dogan and Nilufer Akbal or Armenian duet Arto Tuncboyaciyan and Ara Dinkjian. We also find the gypsy singer Ciguli, who emigrated from Bulgaria or the Bektashi-musician Ali Ekber Cicek with his Alevi- Evergreen ‘Haydar Haydar’. The diversity of the melodies and rhythms prove the variety of the music culture of this country, which is known as the bridge between Asia and Europe. The Double-sampler „Made In Turkey“ is the first edition of this new sampler series from Soulstar Records, which in each one of the series will emphasis on a different country. In this sense, Made in Turkey presents for the first time the many shades of a unique music-culture. The repertoire reaches from relaxed soul melodies to Anatolian rock. The selection of extraordinary tracks contains smooth R’n`B, cool Drum’n’Bass, authentic folk music, Mediterranean rhythm, innovative Sufi-sounds, twisted party-grooves, modern club-beats, fusions of so called arabesque music, Turkish fado, cover-versions of evergreens, jazzy moments, oriental hip hop, folk-revival in a pop outfit and so on. On „Made In Turkey“ we find examples of successful hits of the recent years from Turkey. As well as established stars like Sezen Aksu, Ajda Pekkan, Sertab Erener, Erkin Koray, Kudsi Erguner, current newcomers are also welcome; for example the group Rebel Moves, the project Orient Expressions or the band Porque Son Turcos. Also historical tunes have its place on this well-selected sampler, like Ibrahim Ozgur, the first man who conquered his audience in the 30’ies with tango, or the unforgettable mezzo-soprano Sumeyra Cakir who died 1990 in exile. And of course Asik Veysel as well, the folk-poet who was blind since his childhood and whose fame did not turn pale decades after his death and whose music is always discovered new. On the first CD with the title „Mondo Alla Turca“ are 19 pretty relaxing tracks, which invite you dreaming. Those of you who feel more like dancing go perfectly right with the second CD called „Bosporus Express“. Made In Turkey was compiled by the Turkish origined Djane Gulbahar Kultur living in Germany (Radio Funkhaus Europa / Cologne), who has already superbly mixed several samplers for Soulstar Records. (Oriental Garden series, Asian Garden, Harem’s Secret, Gypsy Garden).
