This is a great book. it intregrates 'escape' literature with'interpretive' literature.this is the greatest point of the book. as an 'escape' book it will hold you in suspence thru the gun fights, thru the train chases, and the motorcycle fights on the barren highways. but we must see thru all this 'excitement' and arrive at the cumulatve- causitive effects in which the human race arrived at this junction in history.the 'interpretive' portion should cause us to ask ourselves,"why would a bunch of maniacs destroy civilization?" what were the consequences of this nuclear holocaust? from the book we see a total breakdown of protective authority,culture,all the good things we have worked hard as a species to aquire.and what relaces this high level of living? an every day fight for survival...the law of the hook and claw...the survival of the fittest. this is a poor trade off...just because we allowed some demented individual to give orders to push the button.
