This is a police procedural, yet the author never forgets to entertain us. Our protagonist is full of human faults. He is probably spoiled and self centered, but there is no doubt but that he focused and committed to solving the cases given to him. There are a few incidents of graphic violence, but these are offset by scenes that had this reviewer laughing out loud. Leaving the keys in his police car hoping it would be stolen was one of the funniest things we've read in a long time!
For someone who enjoys British mysteries not too violent and not too cozy, this book strikes a perfect balance and is highly recommended!
