This is a good story on Caesar, not meant to be the definitive historical accounting of the Imperator of Rome. It is well written and has a very recognizable story line, which will continue in the remaining 3 books of the series. It looks as if the author worked with known history to weave a plausible story line. I really enjoyed the start of the saga taking place from the time of his youth and moving forward. Rome's line of succession "rules" are so messed up, it is amazing to think the empire was around for the time it was. If only her enemies had known what we know now..... All in all, a very nice read.
