This is a good addition to the series, but it had a few problems. The pacing was good, as was the characterization, and the dialogue really shined, for the most part. I loved the humor in some of the scenes. The author still has a problem with breaking up action and dialogue with long passages of explanation or backstory. It wasn't as prevalent in this book as the last, though, and not near as much as in the first book. The main problem with this book, however, is that Cassie has developed an overblown case of "wringing hands syndrome." In other words, she stood around too much wringing her hands. In the first and second books, it was understandable. She was hit with everything new, didn't want what was being forced on her, etc. By the third book, though, she should've been hitting her stride (or at least making progress towards it) instead of standing there wondering who was going to save her this time.
