Presents practical discussions on thermodynamic and electrochemical principles of corrosion, recognition and prevention of various forms of corrosion, types of corrosive environments commonly encountered. DLC: Corrosion and anti-corrosives. Summary: A good reference book not only for corrosion experts Rating: 5 This book is mainly written for readers, being not necessarily corrosion experts. Nevertheless it is also for engineers and everybody interested in corrosion a good reference book. In 12 chapters of this book, published by the Material Information Society, described basics of corrosion become easily understandable. In the first chapter "The Effect and Economic Impact of Corrosion" general criteria are discussed such as definition, appearances, influence possibilities and economic effects. Appendix contains important addresses of corrosion organizations in the USA. 2nd chapter deals with "Basic Concepts Important to Corrosion", like metal behavior, corrosion cell, metal characterization etc. In "Principle of Aqueous Corrosion" the thermodynamic and kinetic basics are described. Further chapters deal with description, early recognition and prevention of a variety of corrosion effects and contain a summary of influences by different corrosive environments. With the help of many examples reader get assistance for characterization of most of the corrosion appearances occurring in practice. In further parts of the book the corrosion control, by suitable design, choice of materials, protecting coatings and inhibitors as well as anodic and cathodic protection, is discussed regarding approach, fields of application and work principle. In "Corrosion Testing and Monitoring" as well as "Techniques for Diagnosis of Corrosion Failure" principle methods of corrosion tests, -monitoring and -diagnosis are outlined. Selected references offer more detailed literature to the reader. Also the corrosion-relevant terms arranged in the appendix appear helpful. A very extensive index enables a direct search within the book. Finally this book represents a good summary for all groups of readers interested in basics to the corrosion. R. Ba?ler
