What's best of all about this book is that it's a YA that will work well for teenage guys. Not only is the protagonist a guy, the whole story is crafted with dude-appeal; humor, action, a cool girl, and an underdog rising to become a stronger, awesomer person, fangs or no fangs.
Finbar's voice is hilarious - if only I could have been that funny and self-aware in high school. The book kept me laughing, with a mix of sophisticated humor, and snarky high school put downs. Finbar is the type of guy I wish I'd known in high school. The secondary characters are equally rich, especially Kate and many of the students at his high school. The cover material says author Flynn Meaney is a graduate student - I hope that means more of her books to look forward to.
