The idea of the book is very good, unfortunately the writing of the author was almost immature. She didn't fully bring to life her thoughts but rushed on. And it's OK to have your characters who are exceptionally old fall back to a more formal way of speaking, but that same formality doesn't belong in the thoughts or speach of your more modern characters or your descriptions of their world. I know Ms. Day is using a psuedonym and is an established author and the second half of the book did seem far better...but I would have expected the books writing style to be more cohesive.
