“WINNER Lusavorich Choir Arevagal In Geghard
Lusavorich Choir of the Vazgenian Seminary of Sevan Supervisor: Very Reverend Ter Bagrat Galstanian Choirmaster: Acolyte Arthur Petrosian, division IV
Songs of Arevagal (Songs of Sunrise) have their unique place in the Treasury of the Armenian Spiritual Music. They are dedicated to the praise of light, which symbolized the God's essential presence.
Before Christianity the Songs of Arevagal were related to the Worship of Sun. In the early Christian times, Songs of Arevagal, most probably, were not periodically performed. Only later they formed the last part of the morning worship. This part, by the order of the VII-th century Catholicos Ezr A Parazhnakertsi, was separated into a special Arevagal Worship.
In the XII-th century Saint Nerses Graceful completely changed the structure of Arevagal Worship by creating for it four main songs and four hordoraks (admonition songs).
Currently Arevagal is worshiped only during the Lent. Songs of Arevagal, filled with luminous faith and a perfect musical harmony, are a shining example of the Armenian Spiritual Music.
