This small volume was apparently a handout at the 1912 AMA convention in Atlantic City. When I got it I was first irritated because about half of this small gilt edged volume was ads for Wellcome's first aid kits- until I realized that while this was far more recent than the Anglo-Saxon period, it was still nearly a hundred years ago, and constitutes in and of itself a fascinating historical resource. As to the Anglo-Saxon part of the book- it's a fairly reasonable but not unique description of the medical skills and techniques of the Anglo-Saxon Leeches (doctors). However nearly every page has a facing plate with images (mainly of cautery) of manuscript illustrations of medieval doctoring which I haven't seen before elsewhere. Fascinating!
