While Anita Shreve never disappoints, I felt slightly empty after reading A Wedding in December. Her ability to create characters and make you love or hate them, or be indifferent, is one of the things I love about her writing. However, as good as this book is, the fact that 63 of the 325 pages contained a secondary, parallel story, tended to subtract from the overall drama in the main storyline. I think that even at 262 pages, this would have been a great book. I did enjoy the secondary storyline, with its brilliant similarities to the main plot, but I just felt that it interrupted the flow of the main storyline and didn't keep me as interested in the rest of the book as I would have been had it not been there.
