I am surprised by many of the reviews. I did not find there to be a lack of action in this book, more of a fully realized and very descriptive novel. I really enjoy J.V. Jones and the characters she creates in the Sword of Shadows series. The characters come alive, I feel like I know each one intimately, my favorite, the Dog Lord. Yes, there may be no conclusion here, but Jones is building. Layers upon layers, and that's what makes these novel so wonderful. Instead of rushing the end, I can savor these books. You know when you finish an amazing series and you wish you could keep reading? Well, Jones is prolonging the inevitable and I love it. The stories are rich and drawn out, she includes many plot lines and stories that would have been cut to fit this tale into a trilogy. I love that I get the opportunity to read them all.
I really enjoy when authors really have a master plan and when it ends we will get to see the pieces come together. I hope that is the case here, there is still room for disappointment, but for now I am entirely satisfied.
