Fontana took the best bits (some unfilmable on a 1973 television budget) from several different drafts of the original script by Genes Roddenberry and Coon, restructured them, and added much coolness of her own. I read this when it was first published, and read it to this day, now in durable hardbound form. If you know the movie, the book is even better. If you don't know it, you don't need to - discover this unjustly neglected, highly accessible bit of SF treasure for yourself!
